ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT

DESCRIPTION ALZHEIMER'S SERVICES- The New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association offers a statewide, toll-free helpline that gives assistance and support to callers.  It sponsors family caregiver support groups and also a support group for persons in the early stages of dementia.  The Association has a Respite Program, which provides cash vouchers for family caregivers to employ a paid caregiver for a brief period, and a national identification and registration program to help authorities identify and safely return home memory-impaired individuals- the Safe Return Program.  Informational materials, a lending library of videos and books, caregiver training and educational conferences are also provided by the Association.  A portion of chapter contributions supports research.
ELIGIBILITY Call to see if you are eligible.
FEES $40 for safe return registration.  Conference fees vary.  All other services are free.
HOURS Normal business hours.
APPLICATION Apply at office for Respite Care, Safe Return Program (scholarships available).  Call office for information packets, community resources, and other services.
