Mission Statement

DESCRIPTION 24-hour crisis intervention, counseling (group and individual for victims, perpetrator and families), life and social skills, court advocacy and personal advocacy. Client's needs dictate services.

LEGAL ADVOCACY

DESCRIPTION Assists victims of domestic violence in preparation of Orders of Protection and court advocacy.  Refers victims to legal aid organizations when they need the services of an attorney and cannot afford one.
ELIGIBILITY This service is available to victims of domestic abuse.

SHELTER SERVICES

DESCRIPTION Provides local emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence. Clients who need shelter for longer than 3 days and clients who need to relocate are referred to facilities outside Sierra County. Transportation to the emergency shelter is provided.
ELIGIBILITY Individuals and families who need emergency shelter because of domestic violence.

APPLICATION Clients are usually referred by law enforcement or other crisis intervention agencies. However, individuals may call or visit to apply.

CHILD ADVOCATE PROGRAM

AGE RANGE Ages 6 to 18.
DESCRIPTION Screens children living with domestic violence for mental health care needs. Supervises children during parental visitation when court-ordered supervision is required. Mediates between children and their parents for families impacted by domestic violence. Visits elementary and middle schools to teach children to recognize, respond to and avoid involvement in domestic violence.

APPLICATION No formal application needed. Children needing services are identified by staff.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

AGE RANGE Over 18.
DESCRIPTION On-call advocates, who work in teams, assist victims of domestic violence when it occurs.
ELIGIBILITY Local residents who have not been impacted by domestic violence for at least one year. Valid driver's license.
FEES No fee
APPLICATION Call to apply. Authorize a police background check and take a 40-hour training course.

FAMILY SUPPORT

DESCRIPTION Distributes clothing and furniture with information about domestic violence at the Senior Citizen meal site in Arrey (about 1 mile off I-25 on Highway 187 next to the yellow onion shed in front of the Arrey (basketball park). A domestic violence counselor is present to speak with clients.
FEES No fee
HOURS 3rd Monday and Tuesday of the month, 8am - 12pm.Additional hours when possible
