Administrative Overview
The Fountain of Hope Day and Resource Center is run completely by volunteers whose goal is to help meet the needs of the homeless or needy in any way that they can.

Mission Statement
The Fountain of Hope is a non-profit, non-denominational resource center established to assist the needy in Sierra County become stable and more self sufficient while promoting lasting change and inspiring a love of God.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

AGE RANGE No restrictions
DESCRIPTION Many positions are available within the organization for people who are willing to offer their services and work on a part-time basis without remuneration.  Positions include: secretarial work, general accounting, food sorting & re-stocking and fundraising.

RENT ASSISTANCE

DESCRIPTION This program helps with making rental payments for individuals and families who cannot afford to make the payments themselves, who are at risk of homelessness without assistance and who qualify for this service on the basis of income or need.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE
DESCRIPTION This program helps provide financial assistance for individuals and families who are unable to pay their utility bills or which offer special services which support people's ability to make their payments.  This includes assistance in paying for metered and non-metered items, such as: electric, gas, phone, propane, firewood, etc.  We will not help pay for cell phones, internet, cable or satellite TV.

FOOD VOUCHERS
DESCRIPTION To supply individuals and families who are in emergency situations with food coupons which can be exchanged in designated grocery stores and/or restaurants for food proucts that have been approved by the issuing agency as nutritious.

HOURS Vouchers can be picked up M – F from 9 am – noon at the First United Methodist Church or after hours by calling Helen at (575) 740-2401 or in the event of an emergency from the local police department 24/7.

MOTEL VOUCHERS
DESCRIPTION To provide homeless individuals and families in the community with a temporary place to stay (usually one to three nights) utilizing a hotel or motel with which the referring agency has a prior agreement.  Also, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, camping passes to the local state park and assistance with purchasing basic camping supplies may be issued.  For those with long term need, transportation to long term shelters in other counties may be provided.

DONOR SERVICES
DESCRIPTION This program accepts donations of material goods such as: food, hygiene products, clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, cook stoves, firewood, other camping supplies, etc. and/or money to purchase them and coordinates the distribution of donations to disadvantaged community residents.  Call Helen at (575) 740-2401 for drop off locations
