TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES (TANF)

AGE RANGE Families with children under 19, or single women who are months pregnant.
DESCRIPTION Assistance for families with dependent children who are in need of temporary assistance, not to exceed 5 years.
ELIGIBILITY Families with dependent children under 19 who are citizens or legal residents and who meet income, resource and work activity requirements.  There is a work requirement for all able bodied adult individuals to seek employment.  Training is available to help individuals become self sufficient.
FEES No fee
HOURS M-F:  8 AM - 5 PM
APPLICATION Applications can be obtained at local Income Support Division office, through the mail, or over the Internet.  Department has 30 days to process eligibility request.

 SOCIAL HEALTH INSURANCE (MEDICAID)

DESCRIPTION  Full or limited medical coverage for single adults between the ages of 19 and 64, women who are pregnant or in need of family planning services, women who have been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer by certain medical facilities, children; from newborn up to age 19, families with dependant children up to age 19, elderly or disabled individuals in medical institutions, home health care coverage to pay for the Medicare premium portion of their Social Security benefits.
ELIGIBILITY Each Medicaid program has its own income, resource and eligibility guidelines.
FEES To qualify there are no fees, but certain programs have payments and co-payments for the services and medications that they provide.
HOURS M-F:  8 AM - 5 PM
APPLICATION  There are specific applications for different programs provided by the department.  A general application can start most programs, but you will be required to fill out a specific application if need be.  Applications can be requested at any time from the department.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE

AGE RANGE Adults:  18-64
DESCRIPTION Assists individual adults 18-64 who are determined to be temporarily or permanently disabled.
ELIGIBILITY Single adults who have a temporary or permanent disability and who meet income and resource guidelines.
FEES No fee
HOURS M-F:  8 AM - 5 PM
APPLICATION Application can be requested at the local Income Support Division office or through the mail and submitted to the local Income Support Division for processing.

Low Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP)


DESCRIPTION Assists for individuals and families to help pay cost of heating and cooling bills.
ELIGIBILITY  Individuals and families who meet income and resource guidelines and who have a heating or cooling expense.
FEES No fee
HOURS M-F:  8 AM - 5 PM
APPLICATION Complete and submit an application to the local Income Support Division for processing.  Applications can be obtained at the local Income Support Division office or through the mail.
LANGUAGES English and Spanish

FOOD STAMPS

AGE RANGE Families and individuals.
DESCRIPTION  Electronic Benefit Transaction (EBT) card that assists qualifying individuals and families to supplement their food purchasing ability.
ELIGIBILITY Citizens and legal residents whose income and resources are within federal and state guidelines.
FEES No fee
HOURS M-F:  8 AM - 5 PM
APPLICATION Applications can be obtained at the local ISD office, through the mail, or over the Internet.  Department has 30 days to process eligibility request.  Expedited services within seven days is available to families with little income or resources.
