Mission Statement
The Rio Grande Valley CASA mission is to support effective volunteer advocacy for the best interests of abused and neglected children involved in the 7th Judicial District court. Our vision is to ensure that every child as a safe, loving, and permanent home.

Administrative Overview

Agency is a volunteer organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's). Special advocates provide very intensive fact finding and advocacy for children in the state of New Mexico foster care system. Due to the demands of the role, special advocates are assigned to only one, or, at most, two children.

COURT-APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES FOR FOSTER CHILDREN

DESCRIPTION Matches volunteers with children in the foster care system who need intensive case management. There are more foster children who need advocacy than CASA volunteers in Sierra County (4/03).
ELIGIBILITY Volunteers must be interested in children, their rights and special needs. They must have the time to devote to training sessions, investigations and meetings. Volunteers must be able to communicate well with children, family members and social work professionals. CASA volunteers must be able to maintain case files and are asked to make a 1 year commitment.
FEES No fee
HOURS Volunteers work approx. 6-10 per month; schedule is flexible.
APPLICATION  Call or send an e-mail message to apply.  Applicants will be subject to a background check and must be willing to attend at least 30 hours of training.
