Attendees: Betsy Robertson, Norma Webster, Jane Greene, Vanetta Pyle, Kori Mannon, Char Myers, Donna Sanchez, Jo Morfesy, Marcia Meister, Ginny Holbrook, Elsie Clark, Mick Marshall, Ruth Lee, John Lee, Ross W. Holbrook, Byan Matram.
Linda Phillips opened the meeting. We will be attending the next Cit Council meeting
on June 13th, 700 pm, in the City Council Commission Chamber, 425 W 4th St. Kori Mannon, Norma Webster and Jane Greene will attend the meeting, but they will appreciate having a lot more of us attend. They will speak after the meeting.
Donna Sanchez suggested that we do not ask to be on the agenda at this time. Donna
suggested that we set up a later (more casual) meeting with City and Council representatives. Donna called this a "stake holders meeting" because we all have an interest in this. We do need to know what will work and what the costs could be.
The committees need to define and describe the work of each committee. There are currently four committees. Their minutes will be posted on the Sierra County website, the meal sites and several other city locations.
We can get lifeguard certification here in Truth or Consequences, the requirements for certification will be posted. Donna Sanchez is our local Red Cross representative. We will put a notice in the paper for life guard volunteers. The pool closes early because all the life guards go back to school.
Kori Mannon showed a sample letter sent to several organizations to find out their level of interest in an expanded pool. Ross Holbrook, from the Sierra Hospital Physical Therapy Department, said he would contact the Arthritis Foundation.
The old bathhouse will not be torn down. It is needed for storage and as an anchor point for any Dome. We can use the park, but only use the designated parking spaces.
Ginny Holbrook reported for the Marketing Committee. They are going to try for a weekly article in the paper. 500 fliers were distributed during the Fiesta. Cans were put out for the slogan contest. The group voted for our favorite slogan and "Roof Us" was chosen. This slogan was suggested by Nancy Waldeck and she will receive the Pool Pass. Ginny asked if we would support T-shirts, posters, and banners using this slogan. The group voted yes on all three. The pool Manager (Destiny) had approved a banner at the pool. We felt it was too soon for any major fund raising activity but thought a "Dive for Nickels" promotion would be a good idea. We will consider "Elephant Days", posters, and T-shirts later.
The Dome Committee was represented by Norma Webster. Per Jim Babylon, our pool heating equipment is fine. Covering the pool will save money by protecting from dirt, vandalism, and heat loss. Per Leon Gorrell, the pool is kept full of water all year long and it is always minimally heated. The major expense will be pool chemicals. The Solar System heater on the roof has been tested (once) and worked fine. there is a schematic for a metal building from a prior proposal. A steel building with skylights and roll up doors would be less expensive than a Dome. The Turner Foundation is being asked for funds to purchase a bulkhead (a "turn around") for the pool. This will allow us to qualify for swim meets (our pool is too long).
The Grants Committee has had no meeting. We will see sample grant forms. A City wide petition would be a big help. We will need to be very specific in our goals and money needed. It should be divided into separate phases. We will have to describe our goals, how to do it, and what the results will be.
We need to keep track of our time!! Put this down on the "sign in" sheets. The hours will be used as an "in kind" contribution for the Grant application.
We formed a Finance Committee. Norma Webster, Betsy Robertson, and Jane Greene will be on it. Jane said we could use the Community Council as our fiscal agent and their 501C-3 for our projects.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 23rd, at 5:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Meal Site on 4th Street.
(Linda Phillips will bring cold drinks and we will bring our money)
