A. Grijalva Donna Sanchez opened the meeting and reviewed a sample agenda that she had prepared. She said that she would not be staying for the meeting but wanted to be sure that we started off in the right direction. The major items on the agenda were defining and assigning duties and deciding on options so that we could report them to the larger group at the next meeting. Along with that information, Donna said that we should be aware of the following:
The group then made a list of groups who would be likely to use the pool and who should be invited to participate or at least provide information on their needs. Groups that we want to involve and the individual responsible for contacting them are: Municipal Schools Linda Phillips will contact Jim Nesbit Appletree Kori Mannon will contact Rebecca Dow/Amy Classen Physical Therapists Kori Mannon will contact all nine of them Hospital Kori Mannon will contact Ross/Kim/Administration ROTC Leon Gorrell will contact Sgt. Apodaca National Guard Leon Gorrell will contact Sgt. On State Police Leon Gorrell Senior Olympics Bobbi Landon and Jackye McDaniels Swim Team Rose Burrows Tourism Board Jane Greene will contact Kathy Clark TOTS X will contact Gaylene Bullington Kori Mannon will also prepare a letter and a form to be sent to these organizations to collect the necessary information. It was suggested that we put another invitation to meetings in the newspapers. Ruth McPherson has agreed to do all press releases for the project and Norma will contact her about putting something in the paper next week. Betsy Robertson is the main contact person. She can be reached at 894-1068 or by email at brobertson70@hotmail.com. A suggestion was made that we conduct a follow-up survey and everyone agreed that this is a good idea. It was also agreed that we should bring this up at the next large meeting to get ideas on what questions to ask in the survey. Norma suggested that we conduct the next survey so that we know the age group of the person responding. There was a general discussion of issues that need to be considered and information we need to get for research and planning. Items identified so far are:
Following this discussion everyone agreed that we should first investigate the possibility of covering the existing pool and finding out whether that will increase the number of people using it enough to justify building a new pool. This recommendation will be brought to the larger group for comment. Leon recommended investigating an Air Dome cover which is being used at pools in La Cruces and Alamogordo. Jackye McDaniel said that she could get some general pricing when she gets the measurements from Nick. She also said that the companies she has spoken with so far recommend solar to heat the facility. Jane said that she will work on a list of items that we need to consider when getting the cost of a particular solution. The group next discussed electing a chairperson and secretary. It was agreed that we will have the positions of chairperson and secretary rotate at this time. The next meeting of the Planning Committee will be held on Tuesday, May 3. Leon said that the Skate Zone facility would be available for the meetings.
