The City of Truth or Consequences recycles
  • corrugated cardboard and newspaper (leave in green dumpsters around town)
  • large appliances and tree limbs (leave beside tan colored dumpsters)
Tree limbs are made into wood chips that are available for people to take from the open field between the Fair Barn and the corner of Sunset St.  If you have questions call the City's Utility Office at 575-894-6671.

Green Acre (504 South Pershing), future venue for green building workshops and cultural events in T or C is making and building with paper-crete. Right now it is NEWSPAPER ONLY. If magazines and paper of all kinds of paper are used again in the future, they will let us know. You may drop by with a little or a lot, whatever you got. Leave it on the property, near the incoming driveway is fine. For more about Green Acre & Paper-Crete: Wendy Tremayne: Green Acre or Mikey Sklar: Electric Clothing

PRECYCLE

One of the best ways to save on trash is to plan ahead.
  1. Bring reusable bags to the store with you. Cloth or paper will do!

  2. Buy Large Quantities. If you buy products in bulk or in large sizes and quantities, you can put them in smaller containers as you need them and this uses less containers.
  3. Buy products with the least amount of packaging or none at all. Items packed in multiple containers may look nice, but they are a waste!
  4. Buy products packed in recycled packaging. If you have to use a container, it might as well be green. Additionally, you help support green corporations. (Important: make sure you look for the recycled symbol)
  5. Don't buy disposable items (plates cups, pens, diapers, batteries, etc.) They only fill the landfill more.
  6. Purchase economy-sized goods because larger containers mean less packaging and less cost per unit. For example, two 8-oz. cans use 40 percent more steel than one 16-oz. can.
  7. Buy long life and concentrated items (batteries, bulks , etc.) This saves on packaging as well as product.
    8. Don't purchase styrofoam. It contains polystyrene, which is the most difficult material to break down in our landfill and is considered a hazardous waste.
